Lumeta: Now in Under-18 category

Lawn tennis whiz-kid Chisomo Lumeta has said he expects the going to get tougher having graduated into the Under-18 category.

Having turned 16 last month, the Morocco-based thriving tennis star said he is no longer eligible to play in the Under-16 category in which he blossomed to become the second best on the continent at some point.

“Obviously, the older I grow the tougher it becomes because I will be competing with those that are 18 and under who are more exposed on the international stage.

“But I am ready for the challenge, it gives me more hunger to work even harder,” said Lumeta just before he flew back to Casablanca, Morocco where he is on a scholarship.

Lumeta also justified why he finished second at the Anoca Games held in Botswana recently where he clinched silver medal, saying he faced one of his toughest opponent on the continent Yusuf Hossam from Egypt.

“He was the top-ranked player when I was second in the Under-16 category and he too, has graduated into Under-18 category,” he said.

Lumeta twice won the Southern Africa Tennis Circuit and International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Junior Championships and Junior Davis. This will be the first time that Malawi will have a representative at the two events.
